A roadmap will be developed for the creation of a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the SEZ of Astrakhan
Negotiations between Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation on the establishment of a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the port special economic zone (SEPZ) of the Astrakhan region have been ongoing since last year.
A number of concrete steps were outlined following the results of the Turkmen-Russian business forum, within the framework of which a Memorandum of Intent was signed between the “Transport and Logistics Center of Turkmenistan” JSC and the “Lotos” Special
Economic Zone” JSC (RF) on the implementation of an investment project to create a logistics center of Turkmenistan in the port special economic zone (SEPZ) of the Astrakhan region.
According to the publication “Turkmenistan: Golden Age”, according to the Memorandum, after the preparation by the Turkmen side of the project and a preliminary assessment of the necessary investments, a roadmap for the implementation of the project will be developed and an agreement on the creation of a logistics center will be signed.
The appearance of the logistics center of Turkmenistan in the SSEZ Astrakhan will become an important incentive for the development of cargo transportation from Central Asia to Russia and vice versa, the General Director of JSC “SEZ “Lotos” believes.
This will make it possible to connect other countries that do not have direct access to the Caspian Sea to the international transport corridor “North-South”. Interest has already been expressed by Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
Freight traffic through the eastern route of the “North-South” International Transport Corridor, passing through Turkmenistan, is growing rapidly. As noted at the 12th meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation, in 2021, 700 tons of cargo were transported through it, and in 11 months of 2022 - almost 62 thousand tons and 220 containers.
