AvtoVAZ began production of Lada in Azerbaijan

The largest manufacturer of passenger cars in Russia, AvtoVAZ, announces the start of assembly of Lada cars in Azerbaijan, RBC reports.

The first model to roll off the assembly line of the new assembly plant was the Lada Granta. In the future, it is planned to expand the model range to include the Niva (Legend and Travel) and Vesta families.

Production volume in 2024 is expected to reach 1,5 thousand vehicles. In the next few years, the company expects to reach an annual volume of 4-5 thousand cars.

“Lada cars are traditionally loved and respected in Azerbaijan. They have been in demand for many decades, and today we are becoming much closer to our customers in the republic”, - said AvtoVAZ President Maxim Sokolov.

The opening of production in Azerbaijan will permit Lada to return its local market share to pre-crisis levels and increase the brand’s presence in the republic.

At the moment, the assembly plant in Azerbaijan has organized:

Reception area for vehicle kits

Assembly shop

Parking lot for storing finished cars

The company's personnel were trained by specialists from Togliatti. Every vehicle produced undergoes road tests.

In 2023, AvtoVAZ negotiated with a number of countries about the possibility of assembling and exporting Lada cars. In particular, the company considered Algeria, Ethiopia, Ghana, Morocco, South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt.

At the end of 2023, an agreement was signed for the assembly and production of Lada cars in Ethiopia.
