Turkmen shipyard received IMO numbers for two bulk carriers under construction
“Balkan” shipbuilding and repairing yard has received IMO numbers from the International Maritime Organization for its future two 6100 tonnage bulk carriers, which will be built jointly with Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd.
The IMO number was first introduced by the International Maritime Organization in 1987 with Resolution A.600(15). The IMO number is placed on ships and floating structures in order to prevent danger, pollution and fraud at sea, according to the website of the “Turkmendenizderyayollary” Agency.
Regardless of the form of ownership and state of the flag, this number must be on the ship during the entire period of use of the ship.
Based on a decision taken by the International Maritime Organization in 1994, the IMO number was made mandatory for passenger ships up to 100 gross tonnage and all cargo ships up to 300 gross tonnage.
Shipbuilding and ship repairing yard “Balkan” within the framework of a signed contract with Koryo Shipbuilding Industry Technology Co., Ltd. 2 dry cargo ships will be built in the near future.
On April 5, the plant received the following IMO numbers for these vessels:
IMO number of the first vessel: 1061154;
IMO number of the second vessel: 1061166.
