Automatic braking will become mandatory for all new cars in the US

Starting in 2029, all cars sold in the United States will be required to have automatic emergency braking (AEB) under a new rule from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Avtonovostidnya.ru reports this.

In addition to AEB, new cars will also have to have Forward Collision Warning (FCW) and AEB for pedestrians systems.

These systems will need to operate at the following speeds:

AEB: up to 62 mph (100 km/h) to prevent collision with another vehicle, up to 90 mph (145 km/h) to prevent collision with another vehicle and up to 45 mph (72 km/h) to prevent a collision with a pedestrian.

NHTSA expects this requirement to save at least 360 lives and prevent 24 000 injuries annually.
