OSJD Chairman: The role of Turkmenistan is important for the development of the Middle Transport Corridor

In an interview with a Turkmenportal correspondent on the sidelines of the 38th meeting of the Council of Managers and Responsible Representatives of Railway Transport of the Member States of the Organisation for Co-operation between Railways in Ashgabat, OSJD Chairman Miroslav Antonovich noted the importance of strengthening the transit role of Turkmenistan for the development of the Middle Corridor.

– Today our organization unites 30 countries and continues to expand. The last member was Laos, Antonovich said. He also said that representatives of more than 20 countries were present at the meeting in Ashgabat, and expressed hope that at this meeting new enterprises would be admitted to the OSJD.

Speaking about the importance of Turkmenistan for the OSJD, Antonovich emphasized that strengthening the transit role of Turkmenistan as a strategic line on the Silk Road is very important for the Organization, including from the point of view of the development of the Middle Corridor.

In addition, Antonovich said that the OSJD is negotiating with other Eurasian countries with the aim of not only joining enterprises, but also the entry of these countries into the organization as full members. Among the key goals of the Organization for the current period, Antonovich named the development of environmentally friendly railway transport.
