A representative of Russian Railways spoke in favor of reviving the Moscow-Ashgabat passenger route

Deputy Head of the Department of Foreign Projects and International Cooperation of Russian Railways Lyudmila Renne spoke in favor of reviving the previously popular Moscow-Ashgabat railway passenger service.

“I’m all for it,” she said, answering a corresponding question from journalists on the sidelines of a meeting of the council of managers and responsible representatives of railway transport of the OSJD member countries, which is being held for the first time in Ashgabat.

Renne also thanked the Turkmen leadership for the excellent organization of the event. “I would like to note that the Turkmen side has very actively joined the OSJD and now occupies almost a leading position in participation in agreements and treaties,” she added.

The Moscow-Ashgabat-Moscow passenger route was canceled in 1993 by decision of the Turkmen side.

OSJD was founded in 1956 and currently includes a number of countries that act as important participants in the transport and logistics market of Eurasia, including Russia. Turkmenistan became a member of the OSJD in 1994.

The organization is involved in coordinating national strategies in the field of rail transportation, solving legal issues and a wide range of problems related to rail transport.
