Ford has patented a “smart” tire pressure monitoring system that will protect against wheel theft

Ford is cracking down on wheel theft with a new tire pressure monitor that not only monitors tire pressure, but also has a variety of other functions.

The sensor, powered by a piezoelectric material that generates electricity from mechanical action, will work even while parked. This will permit the system to monitor changes in pressure, for example, when lifting the car on a jack, and set off an alarm, scaring away thieves.

But that's not all. The sensor will collect real-time information on temperature, speed, tread wear, wheel slippage and more.

This data will permit the vehicle's electronic systems to respond more quickly to changes in the road situation, both off-road and on hard surfaces.

The system is expected to improve the performance of electronic assistance systems such as traction control, especially on multi-motor electric vehicles. Motor.ru reports this.
